How to Apply DTF Transfers with a Heat Press

Equipment Needed to Apply DTF Transfers:

  • Heat Press Machine (set to 282°F / 139°C, medium–high pressure)
  • Silicone Upper Platen Cover (recommended for smooth pressing & garment protection)
  • Parchment Paper or Teflon Cover Sheet (for final press & even heat distribution)
  • Heat-Resistant Foam Pad (recommended for seams, pockets, hats, and uneven surfaces)
  • Garment for Application
  • Falcon DTF Transfers (Instant Peel Film)
  • Thermal Heat Tape (Optional – for precise placement)
Step 1

Position Your DTF Transfer

With Falcon’s Instant Peel film, there is no need to pre-press the garment.

For seams, pockets, sleeves, hats or thicker items, use a heat-resistant foam pad to create even pressure.

Position the DTF transfer in the desired location on the garment and secure it with heat-resistant thermal tape to prevent shifting during pressing.

Step 2

Press the DTF Transfer

Set the heat press to 282°F (139°C). Apply medium-high pressure for 9 seconds.

Step 3

Peel the DTF Transfer Film

After lifting the heat press, peel the instant-peel film in one smooth motion.

If you feel resistance, place the film back down, press for another 2–3 seconds, and peel again.

If resistance continues, increase the temperature by 5–10°F (3–5°C) or adjust the pressure to suit the fabric thickness.

Step 4

Final Press and Washing Instructions

After peeling, cover the design with parchment paper or a Teflon cover sheet and press again for 5–6 seconds to lock in the transfer.

Wait 24 hours before the first wash. Turn the garment inside out, wash in cold water with mild detergent, and tumble dry on low. Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Warm or hot washing and high-heat drying may shorten the life of the transfer.
